Shack-in-a-Rack FAQ | Ham Radio Go Box Questions and Answers

Can I use my own radio in a Shack-in-a-Rack?

Absolutely. You can use your own radios while still getting a professionally built Shack-in-a-Rack. If you already own a compatible model Yaesu radio, we will integrate your radio in to your rack go box. Currently, we only support the the following radios: FT-991A, FTM-150R, FTM-150RASP, FTM-310R, FTM-310RASP, FTM-510R, FTM-510RASP, FT-891, and the FT-710 Field.  You can calculate your price by deducting the current Ham Radio Outlet price of your radio from product price listed on our website. It's as easy as sending your radio(s) to us, along with its power cable, microphone, mounting hardware, and any required control cables and we’ll handle the rest.

Do you build racks for other radio brands?

At this time, we do not. While there are other great radios out there, we focus on Yaesu. We may consider ICOM and Kenoowd in the future but not at this time. For more specific details why we choose Yaesu, please see additional information about warranties and more.

Can I send my own tuner or speaker(s) for the go box?

To ensure reliable performance and a clean, professional installation, we support only the mAT-Y200 and the LDG AT-200ProII tuners, which are ideally sized and designed to mount seamlessly in our rack boxes. If you already own one of these tuners, we’ll deduct the current retail price from your total build cost.

For speakers, we use carefully selected models that have been tested for optimal fit, durability, and audio quality within our enclosures. Because of this, customer-supplied speakers are not typically integrated into our builds.

Can I purchase a rack go box without the radio and tuner?

Every Shack-in-a-Rack go box is more than just an enclosure—it’s a professionally designed and installed, fully integrated communication system. Each build is custom-fit, precision-wired, and thoroughly tested to ensure flawless operation before it ever leaves our shop. Critical elements such as internal mounting brackets, power distribution, antenna routing, and cable management are engineered around specific radios and tuners. This process is far from plug-and-play, and improper installation can result in poor performance, equipment damage, or failure when you need it most.

By having your communications equipment and accessories in hand during the build, we guarantee a perfect fit, secure mounting, neat and reliable wiring, and complete end-to-end system testing. This attention to detail, performance, and dependability is the standard behind every Shack-in-a-Rack—and the reason customers trust us for mission-ready rack go boxes .

Do you offer technical support for the equipment in the rack go box?

At Shack-in-a-Rack, our mission is to deliver superior-quality, operational-ready rack go boxes that are seamlessly integrated, skillfully wired, rigorously tested, and truly ready to set-up at a moment's notice. While we stand behind the quality and integration of our builds, we do not offer technical support or training for operating the radios themselves.
